Little Joys of Life

Fruits Basket - Alone Again

AN: I just wanted to do some fanfiction on this website. The plot is absolutely horrid and I have no clue what I'm talking about. But please enjoy.

Kyo stared out the barred window.
Left alone. Again.
Being the cat, Kyo was to suffer a terrible fate the day after his high school graduation. It was his fate; all the Jyuunshi were aware of this.
But how could he tell Tohru, his dear, sweet, Tohru that he was to be imprisoned in less than a meager two weeks? He was sure she wasn't aware of it; none of the Zodiacs had had the courage to confess it to her. But Kyo did not want to leave Tohru clueless...

Kyo soberly retreated down from the roof to the kitchen, where Tohru was preparing dinner. "Hello, Kyo-kun!" Tohru smiled at him.
Kyo couldn't help but feel guilty, lying behind her back this whole time.
"Oh...hello." Kyo grumbled in response.
Tohru frowned, concerned, for a second, but she thought it unwise to push into other people's business. She continued doing her share of the housework around the house.

*The Next Day*

Kyo stared into the puffy white clouds, thinking about his predicament. It wasn't the imprisonment he cared so much about; it was he would relieve the news to Tohru. How would he do it?

"Kyou-kun?" A small face popped over the roof.
"Oh, sh*t!" Kyo jumped, startled out of his wits. "Do you GOTTA keep creeping me out like that?!" But he didn't need to turn his head around to be able to tell who it was. Tohru was the only person who dared enter his thinking realm. Even Kagura hadn't even attempted. "What are you doing here, Tohru?" Kyo mumbled, calming down.

"Oh...um, I was just wondering....Is something wrong? I mean, you don't seem to have much of an appetite lately, and you look like there's something on your mind...I don't mean to barge in on anything, but --"

"You wanna know? Do you really want to know?"
"Uh, umm.. O-of course I want to know! Just let me know this instant! I--"
"Tohru. I don't want to scare you. But I just want to let you know that I, being the cat of the Zodiac, am going to be imprisoned by Akito--"

"Tohru~! This breakfast looks delicious! And Kyo, are you going to come anytime soon? Please hurry up, Kyonkichi, and don't make our little flower late!" Shigure interrupted from the kitchen.

"D*mn that dog!" Kyo cursed. Tohru, too terrified to make sense of what Shigure had said, ambled down the stairs. She turned to Kyou and asked, "Kyou-kun...did I just hear you correctly earlier? I-I mean...I th-think you said you were g-going to be imprisoned by A-A-Akito..." Tohru stuttered nervously. "I-Is that true?"
"Sorry, Tohru," was all that could escape Kyou's mouth. "I don't mean to scare you. It's going to happen the day after grad."
Tohru nodded hesitantly before burying her faces in her hands. Kyou could see an abundance of tears leaking out of the cracks between her fingers.
"Oh...Um, don't cry...Tohru..." Kyo tried to comfort her. This just made Tohru sob even louder, which, naturally, caught the attention of Yuki and Shigure.
"You baka neko," Yuki punched Kyo in the face. "What did you do to make Miss Honda cry?!" Yuki thought of Tohru as a motherly figure, and didn't want any harm or hurt to come her way, just like a child wouldn't to his parent.
"Baka, baka, BAKA!" Kyou screamed. "IT'S NOT MY FAULT, you STUPID, IGNORANT, RAT!!!"
At this, Shigure's expression turned to one of sympathy. "Kyou, did you tell her about it?"
"Yah..." Kyou muttered. Tohru looked up hesitantly. "Shigure-san...It's true? It's true, isn't it? Kyou-kun...is, is going to be...imprisoned?"

"Don't worry too much, Kyo. It'll be fine."
"Fine?! FINE?! HECK WITH FINE! Who cares about ME?! Can't you see?! It's TOHRU who needs to be taken care of, not ME!" Kyou shouted angrily.
"Glad you understand, you dumb cat." Yuki muttered bitterly. "What are you going to do now?!"
---
Kyo dragged his feet up the ladder leading to the roof. Once he reached it, he sighed, clenched his fist, and punched a hole into the ceiling. "God*mmit!" he screamed. "Why did you have to do this to ME?!"

Meanwhile, Tohru lay on her bed, sobbing her heart out. Why was Kyo being imprisoned? It just wasn't fair. Tohru was trying to be strong and all, but sometimes one can't hold everything together. However, being the kindhearted person she was, Tohru thought it wasn't Akito's fault. After all, Akito had gone through so much pain, being so frail and fragile, and being literally imprisoned himself in his own home. It was natural for him to want to hurt someone else.
And there was something else, too. Why did she care so much about Kyo? These last few days, she'd felt so flustered whenever she'd been around him. At the time, Tohru thought it was the hot weather or a slight crush, but Tohru knew it was something so much more than that.

Tohru was not an expert in love, especially with someone who was about to leave in a few days' time. However, Tohru was glad she still had a chance to be with him, that he would be able to graduate from high
